PeerSync is file synchronization, file replication, and file distribution software capable of managing data in Real-Time as well as on Schedule between Servers and Workstations. PeerSync is available in 2 editions: Workstation and Server.

PeerSync is now available with the optional ByteReplicator Feature. ByteReplicator offers Byte-Level synchronization between a source machine and a target destination. This feature is available for evaluation with PeerSync.

Peer Software has worked with St. Bernard Software to integrate an Open File Manager option into PeerSync, allowing total access to open and locked files.

PeerSync, bought by thousands of customers in nearly every industry, is a proven product, rich in features derived from customer requests. Now in its 7th version, PeerSync can be used for small jobs such as a simple file back-up (one server backed-up to another) or for very large jobs such as large-scale file replication (as one customer does - 250,000 files and 30,000 folders from one server to over one-hundred servers in just a half an hour). PeerSync was designed with scalability as one of its most critical features.

At its most basic, PeerSync is an all-purpose File Replication and Synchronization utility that can transfer a predetermined set of folders and files stored on one computer to another computer via a LAN, WAN or FTP connection. These transfers can be done on an Automatic, Scheduled and/or Real-Time basis. Aside from performing this basic transfer function, PeerSync can handle an astonishing variety of scenarios between any number of machines. Examples of these senarios include: single desktop or laptop synchronization to single server; multi-server to multi-server bi-directional synchronization, single server replication to multiple storage devices like servers and NAS boxes, etc.

PeerSync is a set-and-forget tool. It is a very stable product that also proactively recognizes system failures, like the target server going down, or the link being disrupted, and can handle them. And if something does go wrong, you can be alerted of the failure via e-mail.

PeerSync is a powerful tool that grows with you. Our customers usually start using PeerSync for one purpose but then as they learn more about the utility's capabilities find many other uses for it. Web Server administrators, for example, start by synchronizing load-balanced production servers but then may use PeerSync to send all log files to one server so a reporting system like Web Trends can analyze them all.

PeerSync minimizes your cost. Because PeerSync uses a peer-to-peer networking technology, not a client/server technology, we can offer a second type of license, a remote connection license, which together with our standard license can save you a significant amount of money.

PeerSync is scalable. It has many capabilities designed to speed up large-scale processes. For example, in situations where you are transferring large files over a fast pipe, you can set the read/write buffer to a larger size, requiring less number of disk accesses to read your files. And if you have 100 jobs to run, you don't want to run these sequentially one at a time. By using PeerSync's multi-threading capability, you can initiate all 100 jobs at roughly the same time, which is very handy when you want to make sure the same set files arrive on other servers at the same time, as you do when posting new web content to load-balanced servers.

PeerSync minimizes impact on your current environment. It doesn't require that any 3rd party software be loaded in order for it to work.

PeerSync minimizes set up time. You can set up a basic synchronization/replication task in ten minutes and easily minimize on-going management. For example, you can set up PeerSync as a Windows service so if the server goes down, PeerSync will be brought up automatically when the server is brought back-up.

PeerSync Feature Listing

PeerSync Workstation Edition

Feature

Benefits

Scalability and Flexibility

Create Multiple Source/Target Combinations (Filters) per Profile and Create and Save Unlimited Number of Profiles

Each filter in PeerSync can have its own set of options allowing very precise control over the file synchronization/replication operation.

File Synchronization and Replication Capabilities

File Synchronization is copying new or updated files from a source location to a target location. Only files that are new or changed are copied.

File Replication is the same as File Synchronization with the added feature of deletions. If a file is deleted off the source, it will also be deleted from the target. This is a powerful feature for managing space and clutter.

Intelligent File Deletion

PeerSync can be configured to automatically delete target files when their coresponding source files are deleted. Additionally, these deleted files can be archived for restoration purposes. These features allow you to better manage your storage capacity needs and offer a layer of protection against accidently deleted files.

Enhanced Performance

True Event Driven Real-Time Monitoring, either at the Folder Level or Individual File Level

Some products watch for changes at the directory level and then must scan the entire directory to discover which folder/file has changed. This can be a very slow process, especially when directories hold thousands of files. PeerSync offers two faster options:

-PeerSync will watch for changes at the folder level and then scan just that folder to search for the change.

-Or, if performance is paramount, you can set PeerSync to watch event changes at the file level instead of at the file folder level. If PeerSync detects a file change event, it doesn't have to scan the entire file folder, but instead immediately replicates or synchronizes only the file that changed. And as an additional benefit, since PeerSync watches events at the file level, it can tell when a file is renamed which means it doesn't proliferate the originally named file and the newly named file. It just deals with the newly re-named file.

Folders and Files can be Compressed before Transmission

Compressing folders and files can save transmit time, especially on low-bandwidth links.

Option to set Read-Write Buffer Size

By changing the size of the buffer, you can improve the speed with which files are transferred, especially with large files over a high-bandwidth link.

Management Options

Enhanced Automation Features such as:
-Real-Time Event Driven Operation -Running on a Timed Scheduled (ex: every 10 minutes) -Running at Scheduled Times (ex: every Monday at 12:00 AM)

Automation provides greater flexibility in both how you run your job and what it does when you run it. For example, you can set one job to run only when PeerSync is launched; another to synchronize files in real-time by watching for changes at the file level; and another to replicate one server to another server at a midnight each night. This way you don't have to change your synchronization/replication job to fit how the software works; instead use the software to do what you need.

Event E-Mail Reporting

As part of the set-and-forget design philosophy, you can have e-mails alert you of any failed process.

Log Files

In case you need to do a root-cause analysis of a particular problem, you will be able to audit the log files, which contain all file synchronizations/replications that occurred over a specific time frame.

Administrative Summaries

Administrative summaries provide a way to summarize the activity across a set of servers so you don't have to look at what's happened on each server individually.

Interface to SNMP Reporting

If you want to integrate PeerSync into your current SNMP monitoring and reporting system, you can establish SNMP traps from within PeerSync.

Archive Deleted Files

PeerSync can permanently remove deleted files, or send deleted files to a temporary folder "just in case". PeerSync can permanently delete the file in the temporary folder after a specified time period (i.e. 10 days).

Monitor PeerSync when Running it as a Windows Service

Normally, you can't see into the activity of a Windows Service. This feature allows you to see PeerSync's actual synchronization/replication activity.

Set the Maximum Time a Job is Allowed to Run

There are times when you need to stop a job from running at a certain time of day. Perhaps you run your jobs at night to take advantage of low server utilitization, but want to stop the jobs when your company's staff fully arrives by 9:00. This capability allows you to do this.

PeerSync Observer

From your desktop, you can monitor the activities of computers running PeerSync across a network. This allows you to see how PeerSync is doing on other servers without having to remotely log into each separate server.

File-Revisioning

File-Revisioning keeps a specified number of backup copies of a file. In several industries, such as in law and in engineering, it is required to have older versions of a file or database. Revisioning allows you to step back to a previous version of that file or database.

Failure Recovery Options

Run PeerSync as a Windows Service

By running PeerSync as a service, when a server fails, PeerSync will automatically be restarted when the server is restored. If you run PeerSync as an application, this will require manual intervention by someone using a Password/ID to logon on and start this application.

Ability to Monitor Connections that have Failed, or Files that have Failed to Copy

PeerSync monitors target connections and file transfers to make sure everything that is to be transfered is indeed transfered. If a connection or file copy has failed, it will retry to connect or synchronize/replicate the file for a specified number of times on a pre-determined interval (ex: setting PeerSync to retry the failure 4 times, putting 15 minutes between each retry). This provides a pro-active way to resolve failed conditions.

Security Features

Password Protection Available when Compressing a File or Folder

This adds an additional level of security.

Transfer NT File Security Descriptions(ACLs)

The transfer of ACLS keeps security integrity intact when moving folders and files from a source computer to a target computer.

Ease of Use

An Intuitively Designed Tool

The fact that PeerSync is intuitively designed makes the job of setting up a particular synchronization or replication operation easy.

Profile Options can be Set to Display at Different Levels: Basic through Advanced

Recognizing that users have different skill levels, PeerSync can be set to any one of three different levels, from Basic to Advanced, each level revealing more options and choices. In Basic mode, you can easily set up a simple job, but as you learn more about PeerSync, you can change the mode to handle increasingly more complicated jobs. PeerSync grows with you.

Platform: Windows 98/NT/2000/XP PCs and Workstations

Note: Workstation Edition cannot be installed on a Server, but can synchronize to and from a Server. Please see Server Edition and High Volume Server (HVS) Edition for Server installations.

Workstation Edition requires that either the source or target of a synchronization be a local folder. Please look at the Server or High Volume Server (HVS) Edition for remote -to- remote synchronization.

PeerSync Server Edition

Feature

Benefits

Includes all Workstation Edition features plus:

FTP Support

FTP Site Synchronization

There are times when the only method to access another server is through FTP. This capability provides a way to synchronize files via the FTP Internet protocol.

Enhanced Reliability

File Recovery

This feature allows PeerSync to resume a file transfer when after a network or system failure occurs.

CRC Processing

During a binary file comparison and after a file is sent from a source to a target, CRC checking is used to validate the integrity of the files. In the first case, it checks that the two files are identical. In the second case, it checks that the transferred file has arrived intact.

Handles the Copy of In-use Files

Another proactive feature PeerSync has that handles an error condition since in-use files normally can't be transferred from one server to another.

PeerSync copies open and non-locked files such as Word files Excel files, pictures files, etc. With the addition of our Embedded Open File Manager, PeerSync can copy open and locked files such as Exchange files, SQL Databases, Outlook .pst files, etc.

Platform: Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/2003 Workstations and Servers
