Observer WAN Network Analyzer Solution
Ensures full-duplex capture and analysis on serial HSSI, digital T3/DS3/E3, and serial and digital T1/E1, OC3 and OC12. Observer supports Packet over SONET (POS) and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) over OC. Portable, distributed and Terabyte storage options are available for packet capture and analysis.
Features:
- MultiHop Analysis
- Track conversations through up to 10 segments
- Pinpoint network delay or system processes as cause
- Measure one-way, round-trip, and individual hop delay
WAN Vital Signs
- Get comprehensive summary of WAN errors, stats, utilization, congestion
- View DCE/DTE traffic individually or in aggregate
- Stats shown in packets, bytes, FECNs, BECNs, number of discard eligibility, errors, and utilization Plus WAN alarms, filtering, trending, reporting, real-time experts and more.
Full OC3 and OC12 Support
For large organizations and carriers monitoring OC topologies, Observer now monitors and analyzes OC3 and OC12 traffic and decodes OC-related protocols.
While the OC transfer scheme introduces an element of uniformity, it also creates a certain amount of network overhead.
ATM is a dedicated-connection switching technology that organizes digital data into 53-byte cell units and transmits them over a physical medium using digital signal technology.
Observer supports Packet over SONET (POS) and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) over OC. It offers the ability to present analysis at the cell-level (53 bytes) and reconstruct ATM streams and ATM over SONET. These protocols are used for sending long-distance data transmissions.
High-End Monitoring and Troubleshooting On the Go
When portability counts, the Network Instruments Portable Analyzer System is the only unit you need to manage and troubleshoot complex Gigabit, 10 Gb, WAN, Fibre Channel, and OC problems throughout the network.
With the GigaStor Portable capture days worth of packet-level data to Isolate network issues quickly. Includes either 2 TB or 4 TB of total storage.
With Portable Analyzer Systems:
- Troubleshoot intermittent performance issues
- Obtain an independent look at data flow
- Gain real-time metrics
- Perform retrospective network analysis
Each System Includes:
- Observer Suite software
- Custom adapter (on select models)
- 10/100/1000 Ethernet management port
- All required cabling and TAPs
WAN Probe
Probes provide a direct, passive link to data streams, offering an independent, trusted view of network traffic. Why can’t users connect to the net through a WAN link? Why is the link slow? Is it a bandwidth issue or the ISP?
Complete WAN Analysis
Access 30+ real-time WAN performance stats, multiple WAN-specific filtering options, comprehensive error summaries, and verify and enforce SLAs. Ensures full-duplex capture on serial HSSI, digital T3/DS3/E3, and serial and digital T1/E1, OC3 and OC12.

Easy Deployment
- 4U rack mount unit
- Configure as a local console for on-site analysis
- Reports to any Observer Expert or Observer Suite console
A high-performance historical analysis appliance that is engineered for forensics with almost unlimited amounts of storage potential.
Storing up to 288 TB of network data for days, weeks, or months, our network recorder eliminates finger-pointing between network and application teams by providing proof of what occurred. Use GigaStor to navigate to the exact moment a problem happened, and see a detailed packet-level view of before, during, and after the occurrence. Monitor LAN, WAN, Ethernet, Gigabit, 10 Gb, OC, and Fibre Channel networks.
The appliance includes a unique time-based navigation utility to easily investigate network issues. The GigaStor can also be used as a network forensics tool with features such as Stream Reconstruction, offering the ability to recreate hard evidence such as e-mails, web pages, or instant messages.
The GigaStor is a complete system and reports to any Expert Observer or Observer Suite console.
