Do you need to perform pre-deployment tests for implementing VoIP?

Objectives:

  1. Determine current utilization statistics for WAN connection to be used for VoIP.
  1. Get estimate of VoIP call pair usage anticipated. Average, Min and Max
  1. Calculate Average, Min and Max BPS utilization for Codec to be used. Determine available bandwidth sufficient.
  1. Test to determine the call quality by ramping call pairs min to max across connection. Call Quality to be measured by R-Factor and MOS and for an additional charge PESQ can be added. Test can be implemented with the following options:
  • Generate average TCP/IP traffic to Average utilization levels with random bursts to Max utilization levels. Or,
  • Test for period of time over live network.
  • Test Call pairs with QOS implemented.
  • Test before and after firewall.
  1. Test Average call pairs anticipated and determine call quality. Call Quality to be measured by R-Factor and MOS Can be implemented with the following options:
