Architecture

Global ECS Architecture

Administrator

The main GECS client is called the Administrator. The Administrator
provides an intuitive Windows Explorer type view of the entire GECS environment.
All of the administration, scheduling and monitoring of the GECS framework
will be done using this client. The Administrator may be run on any machine
that has TCP/IP connectivity to the GECS Database Server. You receive a site
license for GECS clients with every license that is purchased so you may run
an unlimited number of clients with every installation of GECS. Browser-based
GECS clients are also available.

Controller

The GECS Controller is the heart of the GECS framework. The Controller manages and controls the entire GECS production environment. It enforces all of the rules of the job definitions and monitors the execution of all jobs. It interrogates the database looking for mature jobs to run and then dispatches them to an appropriate available agent. The Controller can run either as a service (using the system or a specified user account) or as a desktop application.

Agents

The distributed GECS Agents are responsible for launching the tasks assigned to them by the Controller. The Agents also capture job return codes and report job status to the Controller when that information is requested. Agents have the ability to assume the rights of the submitting user for the job that it will run which greatly reduces any security risk. Platforms Supported: Windows NT, 4.x Windows 2000, Windows XP, Vista, HP-UX Solaris Linux AIX Tru64 (SCO) UnixWare NetWare.

Database

When GECS is installed, the database is installed along with it. . The GECS Database will be transparent to you as long as you want it to be.
